plz help me with my first car	Sign In

ive recently recieve my first car for my 18th birthday and there a some things wrong with it that i cant quite figure out. ok first of its a 1992 mercury topaz gs 2.3l 4-cyl 5 speed and there seems to be a problem with the coolant system. i noticed that during a hot day if im stuck at a red light for too long i start to smell something that resembles rain hitting hot blacktop and then when i finally get a green light the car will start to stall randomly and it overheats. when i got home i checked the fluid level in the reserve and it had gone from hot to cold. my first thought was that its just a simple leak but that wouldnt really explain the smell and i have looked all over and i couldnt find any sign of fluids dripping. so i was wondering if anyone might have any insight as for whats goin on. oh and the heater works but that a/c doesnt idk if thats related to this problem. thanks for looking and i hope you can help

Your first steps would be to pressure test the cooling system for leaks and then make sure the cooling fans are coming on when it gets hot.

the cooling fans do come on but thanks ill go get it pressure tested when i get my clutch adjusted
