I have an old toyota 4runner its a 1994 v6. I have a coolant leak and i believe its the water pump. Whenever i drove the car, i pour in some coolant in the car. yesterday after a 5 min drive or so when i came to park. i notice there is a little bit of smoke coming out of the hood of the engine. is it safe to drive it? how much does a water pump cost to fix???? plz help! I am no car expert at all

How much? Your whole engine if ignored! At the age and lots of variables it may snap bolts or be more difficult but so far doesn't seem you are absolutely certain its the water pump yet to be verified. If a keeper adding new hoses, belt(s) would likely be suggested and a good idea,

do you think its possible to trade in a car like that? im planning to trade it or just fix it. which one would you recommend??

If you were thinking of another vehicle anyway you could trade it the way it is but if this thing is in good shape overall I wouldn't jump ship over a water pump if you like this vehicle at all and of course that's up to you.
If you run low on coolant even to trade it (expect short bucks) and cause more problems it will be worth even less,

Its overall good shape just a little big of rust. I just replace the starter. It has 185000 mile only for a 18 yrs old car. I figure keeping it only if the water pump isn't that expensive to fix

So far you "believe" it's a water pump but didn't seem sure. Could be a hose or gasket so until diagnosed exactly what the cost is unknown.
You also said a short drive after filling it produced smoke/steam off of the engine. A pressure test would help diagnose this such that you see it leak and from where.
Other: A little rust showing can mean much more not seen. That's costly at best if need to fix that.
So far driving this can only make it worse until you know what you are dealing with. If YOU can be sure about it being a water pump a local shop may give you a quote or range for the job but let them determine it is in fact a water pump or you may end up with one you don't need and that would be your fault.
You have to decide what is right for you. My suggestion is don't make it worse whatever the source of leak is,
