overflow gurgling Sign In

I have a 95 dodge neon and im finding that after I have driven it and stopped the overflow is making a gurgling noise.
I have talked to a few people about this and they have said that this is a sign that the head gasket is going. Im just wondering if there are some things that I can check to see if this is what it is.
Anyone have any ideas

Well, it sounds as if nothing else, it is boiling. I don't know if I'd jump to the head gasket, yet. The first order of business is to get that temperature down. Once it has cooled off, remove the radiator cap and be certain that the radiator is full. Inspect the pressure cap. If the system is low, fill it and check for leaks. Pressure test if no obvious signs of external leakage. Hopefully, if no leaks are found, it's just a bad thermostat. Once any leaks are repaired and the system full and bled of air, go ahead and run it. Don't let it run long enough to overheat, of course. Watch to see if the cooling fan comes on. It may not come on until the engine reaches 230-235F. If it starts getting hot very quickly, and/or you can feel pressure in the upper radiator hose before it reaches temp, then we'll need to proceed with physically checking the thermostat.
On the other hand; If you can get it to a shop without any more overheating, they can check it for exhaust gases in the cooling system which would confirm a head gasket problem. Usually, you'll notice a cloud of steam out of the exhaust as the coolant is being burned if a head gasket is leaking into an exhaust port. Water in the oil would be another confirmation.
