new rims hitting bars in the rear...HELP

I have a 99 neon and i added some rims. 18" now when i take corners once in a while i hear a clunking sound usually in the back but if i corner too sharp ill hear it in the front. so i need to know what to do before this becomes a serious problem. are those braces called struts? and would replacing them help?
