I have a 97safari,6 cyl that won't start at random. So far I've had the fuel pump changed , new wire rotor plugs ect , air sensor, fuel relay, but for no reason that I can guess though , the engine cranks but don't start. So in this event I've tried disconnecting the battery and sometimes not , and various sensors like the air sensor , control valve to the EEMC system , or say the air intake , tried pulling the fuel relay switch , I know it sounds cro magnon kinda mechanics but more often than not I get it going again, one time I even blow torched the air sensor to heat it up , and that worked , I must be onto something but what ? They say call us when it won't start but then that's how I got the whole tune up and the fuel pump changed, both for a mere 850 bucks each and I'm getting worn, . I'm convinced it is an electrical weakness somewhere or is it another sensor I haven't thought of, It takes an hour just to get the doghouse in and back again, I really doubt that it's the ignition switch since I can get it going using my primitive macgiver talents, but I can't seem to get it not to start either. This morning it wouldn't start so I plugged in the sensor to the control valve of the emmission canister and it turned over . The truck runs fine but when --to turn it off?

Intermittent problems like this cause premature hair loss. Your "Cro Magnon" Smile approach is as good as any but unfortunately isn't helping with being sure of what the real problem is. Try getting the codes read which may help lead the way. If you disconnect the battery it will clear codes so avoid doing that anytime near getting codes.

Can you tell if you lack fuel or spark when it doesn't start? That would help. Of course checking all this with it working won't help.

Can you hear the fuel pump come on while ign is in run before you engage starter? Try listening for that then go to start and note if it doesn't buzz when it doesn't start,

T
