This has happened at a couple of different gas stations, on a slightly used 2005 Prius that I recently bought. Some of the tires take air well enough, but on one or more of them (I didn't keep track), I couldn't get the nozzle of the air hose to form a decent seal over the tire's air spigot and so all that happened when I tried to pump the air in was that air slipped out around the nozzle. I stopped before it could get bad, but now I don't know what to do. Should I keep trying different gas stations? Buy a portable air pump (if so, which one) that makes a decent seal and use that until I should happen to get new tires? Eh?

It's probably not your car but the worn air hose end where you are going. You can get 12v pumps and I have a few as they are handy but they are slow. There are wild price differences in those units so if you want that just pick what suits your needs,

I went to a third gas station (one where you have to pay to use the air pump) and it worked fine. Dang, one of my rear tires had 50 psi and the other had 30! No longer!
