my corsa is leaking petrol Sign In

Hello,

My car is in the garage, and they dont seem to know what the problem is, i woundr if anyone can help?

Basically when my engine is running and the fuel cap is on petrol starts leaking at the front of the car.
When they take the fuel cap off and keep the car running, then it doesnt leak.

Anyone with any ideas?

Thanks in advance

This would be a problem with the evaporative emission control system. Look for problems with hoses at or near where it leaks for damage there. Is it possible this is the wrong gas cap on the tank. Still shouldn't do that but it has something to do with the proper operation of that system. I'd leave cap loose if you must until you can locate the obstruction and if you can - don't park it in a garage,

Can't say how much to fix this as I really don't know what is wrong. Most cars control the gasoline fumes on top of the fuel thru a system up front to collect any hydro carbons and burn them thru the engine rather than let them escape. This takes hoses to a canister up front and at given times will go to the intake manifold for burning while enine is runnning. It's a bit unusual but there has to be a problem with the hosing or pressure regulation of that system allowing raw fuel to escape. Perhaps a car that is way too full of fuel could do this if it warmed up in the sun or something but I've never run across that.

It may be caused by some hoses getting mixed up while doing another repair. Probably a simple fix but may take some time to find the fault,
