hey guys, im hoping i can get some advice here. thanks for reading.
i own a 1995 mercury cougar 4.6L when i first bought the car the battery was fine in it, but for some reason after a week of sitting my battery was almost completely depleted (luckly enough to start up and recharge). since then ive been starting the car regularly to keep it charged. but it did go dead and i bought a replacement battery. i still kept on starting regularly, 2 days ago i was driving the car through town just fine, i went to get exhaust installed for inspection. 2 day later i go out to start the car and my new batter about a month old is dead.
i know the alternator is fine because when the ingnition is on the battery meter shows a charge then when the engine starts the battery meter raises
showing the altenator power.
all my connections seem to be fine ( i checked) and my hood light and interrior light come on.
so what would be causing this drain? i make sure my ignition is off. every time i leave the vehicle

It seems like you may have a short in the system , but I'm not sure how you could confirm this. This could be a long process as well tring to track down. If you have the money it would be a wise move to have a tech take a look, or go to a larger auto parts shop that may offer this for free. At least you could get an idea of were or what is draining your battery and your pocket slowly.
Also check all your switches suck as windows, and power seats if the car has them, one might be stuck. Also give your fuses a quick over look incase one is tring to pop but can't would help you track this down.

luckily i bought a battery with a 2 year warranty so its getting replaced for free shortly. this way i'll be able to drive the car somewhere to get the problem diagnosed..
BUY batteries from WALMART!!!! i dont reed a receipt or anything.

One easy way I know of to test for a direct short is to disconnect the negative battery terminal. Take a 12 circuit tester and connect it to vehicle ground and the negative battery terminal. If you have a direct short, the tester will light up. As far as finding the short, well that can be a bit of a pain but start looking for wires that rub against the frame, etc.
