ok i have a 1990 camaro rs with the v8 305.119,000 miles. the fuel and tachometer gauges are not working correctly.the fuel stays on fuel and the tachometer stays all the way to the right. i think the problem might be in the cluster itself but im not sure. does anyone know how to test or repair this problem?please help.

Re: my camaro Sign In

Hi
I guess first off; is this instrument cluster, a digital or analog cluster? The inputs are the same for either, I just want to picture what we’re working on.
The fuel gauge, does it show (way) over full or just at the full mark?

Go to the fuel tank and disconnect the wiring harness for the fuel pump and gauge.
On the wiring harness connector that leads away from the tank, ground the pink wire with a jumper wire, to a known good ground. (Anything metal) Turn the ignition switch to the run position; the fuel gauge should now read empty.
If not; check of an open in the wiring harness between the harness connector and instrument cluster. If the harness and connections (at either end) are good, replace the fuel gauge; if it’s serviceable separately from the cluster; if not replace the cluster.

As for the tach you will have to remove the cluster from the dash and test for power and ground at the connectors. If power and ground are as they should be replace/rebuild the cluster.

Here are a couple of charts that show cluster connector pins.

Sorry for the size of the images; any smaller and I couldn't read it.
YES Way2old I have my glasses on. LOL
