I have a 1998 ford escort zx2 and for starters the engine light stays on all the time .I have ignored this for some time now but about a month or so ago the car started getting really loud and would keep bogging out and of course not wanting to give my car up for a few days I ignored that too. Finally the other day I was driving and the car just would not get gas and I finally took it in for repair. They said I have several things wrong like the ac clutch ,02 sensor,fuel pump and the exhaust pipe. I could not afford to have all that repaired so asked the mechanic what he thought I should have fixed the most and he said the fuel pump and the ac clutch ,but I heard that all the ac clutch does is control the ac .Is that true and do you agree? Thanks so much .I just want my car back!

I doubt A/C clutch, its bearing or adjustment would cause bogging down. You've been staring at a "check engine" light? Probably clogged up the converter which wasn't even mentioned in the repairs you listed and I suggest you get a second opinion on what this really needs,

THAT WAS NOT VERY NICE . THE REASON I IGNORED IT WAS BECAUSE I PURCHASED THE CAR FROM MY SISTER AND SHE TOLD ME THE LIGHT COMES ON AND OFF ALL THE TIME AND IT WAS NO BIG DEAL .THANKS ANYWAY.

NO NOTHING WAS MENTIONED ABOUT THAT ,BUT I DID HAVE THE TIMING BELT FIXED A FEW MONTHS AGO. I THOUGHT THAT WAS WHY THE FUEL PUMP NEEDED REPAIR FOR THE BOGGING .
