master cylinder on 98 silverado Sign In

i just replaced the main brake line that feeds the rears. all is good now except that it sounds like the master cylinder is sucking air when i press the pedal down to pump them up. i have a pretty hard pedal but i just wonder if the master cylinder is not sealed good or if this is a normal sound?

If you are hearing a vacuum type noise during pedal depression, the power brake booster may be leaking. This would account for a 'hard' pedal. It would be like trying to stop without the engine running. With the engine running, transmission in park (neutral with e-brake set if manual trans), press on the brake pedal with your hand while you have your head under the dash. Listen for a constant 'sucking' noise while the pedal is depressed.
Does the brake pedal have the normal amount of travel, as before? There is a difference between a 'firm' pedal (as in no air in system) and a 'hard' pedal (as in no power assist). Hard to describe.Smile

With the engine off, that is a normal sound. Not to worry.Smile

I also have the same vehicle and i just put in coil spacers in the front and i went to bleed the brakes and it sounds almost like gargling coming from the master cylinder area.i switc\hed the tops from my other truck thinking it might have been that but no luck. When i bleed the brakes all fluid comes out but the pedal just doesn't feel stiff like it should be,It goes near the floor.Have any ideas?
Thanks,Steve
