low beam Headlight and power seatbelt not working Sign In

Hi... I have a 1993 Ford Tempo with 100,122(i think) miles on it. Its a wonderful little car, but lately its been...problematic.
The most recent issue started today, my passanger side headlight is out...Highbeams work, but the lowlight is out. The Drivers side power belt is sluggish, doesn't like to come back to secure me in.

Does anyone know if its a fuse? Or maybe could it be something else? Hoping to do this on a low budget, with...sadly little knowledge of mechanics availible.

Any guess at what it is and/or how much it'll cost me to fix would be highly appreciated.

Have you checked the head lamp bulb to see if the low beam element is burnt out?

One of Ford and Honda's brainfarts " The automatic passive restraint system" I guess Ford thought people were too lazy to put on their seat belt. I don't know how many of those cars I worked on in which I stuck my head through the window to start the engine and had the belt come down and try to rip my head off.

More than likely the shoulder belt transport motor is worn out or there could be a problem with the carriage system. I am sure that parts are discontinued for that system and the salvage ones aren't probably any better. Most of the time when they go bad they get disabled in the locked position and you can manually put on your shoulder belt.

Re: low beam Headlight and power seatbelt not working Sign In

I'd be thrilled if I could do the seat belt manually.... so long as thats where it decides to stick and I can duck around it, it'd be just fine by me.
It's too dark to see if anything is burnt out, my brother says he can tell that much and will check in the morning. Hopefully its just the bulb?

What are the odds that it is just the bulb? Do you know?

Or could it be a fuse thats doing it to both the headlight and the seat belt? Even tough they're on opposite sides of the car? The windows can be stubborn too, but I've had trouble with power windows before, So i tend to just accept their stubborness.

Thank You!

I had almost forgotten the strangle - matic DSTongue . Maybe some WD-40 would help the belt slide.

The first place to check if you just have one light out is the bulb itself. If were a fuse or switch, more than likely you would have both headlamps out. The headlamps and seat belt system are on two different circuits.

Check out the bulb first and go from there.

Bulb alone likely. If same age known as other side do both if that fixes that.

Strangle me belts. OMG if stupid was $$ we'd all be rich. Yup - been flipped around and pinned by one - nice. Lube the track would be my suggestion too,
