loud whining noise in 05" Envoy	Sign In

There is a whining noise when I start my 05' envoy. As it idles the noise creeps up a little louder. When accelerating the speed it get worse. Like a loud streaming noise. As i get off the gas it goes back down low but continues. I'm sooo scared its major! Help Me Please

If this makes noise just at idle it's probably a belt driven item and yes you should be concerned. What might be a simple pulley could damage other things if it breaks. Check with engine off for things that don't look right that are belt driven. Take belt off and spin items to pin point and verify the problem, use of a stethescope or listening rod (careful) is helpful with finding bad bearings. Belts themselves can make some wild noises and a quick spray of something like WD-40 may shut up a noise temporarily and help with determining that. If that trick works the belt itself is usually the problem,

Once I start my Envoy, the whining noise begins. the noise level depends on if I accelerate the gas petal. As I'm on the gas the noise is louder, off the gas it get lower. The noise gets louder as I am accelerating at about 50 to 60 mph it becomes a loud terrible whining noise. If I suddenly get off the gas, it goes down to a lower horrible noise. As you may tell I am a female and do not know a lot about car mechanics. I am trying to get some ideal of what this may be before some car repair shop rips me off. My suv is not under warranty. Any help is very much appreciated!

Hey - some of the best techs are gals so don't fall into that. It's important to know if this noise can make the noise with trans in Park? Otherwise it could be anywhere. There are parts of the trans turning when in park but most won't make noise. I'm trying to isolate what the source of the noise is - engine or driveline,
