ok so my 96 bravada which is completely stock has been really, really, really acting up lately. i dont know if all the problems i am about to list are related or just pure coincidents. first off ive noticed that when accelerating from a stop i get a squeak, squeak, squeak which sounds like rubber on rubber. it only does this for 1 to 2 seconds. secondly I have noticed that when i go to stop it sounds like a metal on metal high pitched scrapping. thirdly when i do stop i get a squeaking noise. and then when i tried to turn the wheel while i was stoped i got a high pitched, groaning/screeching noise from the front wheels. this only happened for a little bit though and went away after about ten minutes. i am flabergasted and have no idea.i have checked all the brakes and the rear are good and so is are the front. thanks in advance and reply soon because its scarring the crap out of me.

breckert; This sounds like a dry U-Joint, to me. U-joints can go bad and still not show any play. If this is a 4WD, be sure to check all of them. Front axle, front and rear driveshafts.

it could be a u joint but that still wouldnt explain the groaning when turning the wheels back and forth. my car wasnt even moving. im sorry if it sounds rude but ive been trying to figure it out all day and its just frustrating the heck out of me

I'm not a mechanic, but generally speaking, axles have whats called a CV joint - similiar to a UV joint - that provides flexibility to an axle right before it enters the steering knuckle. CV joints are ball bearings packed with grease and a rubber boot on the outside to hold it all together. If there is noise during steering it could be these joints. If you can get underneath your car you can see if the rubber boot around the joint is bad (by either tire). You can go to google images and type in "CV joint" to get a picture of what a good or bad one is supposseed to look like. If one of these is bad you would probably hear it while make a full sharp turn (in either direction). I hope this helps, good luck!

No, that's not how a bad C/V joint acts. When a C/V is severely worn, it will make a loud clicking or snapping noise only when accelerating around a corner. It will be quiet driving straight ahead or with no throttle applied.

Ohhhhh. If it will do it sitting still, look for dry ball joints and tie rod ends. Lubricate rubber bushing with silicone spray.

well i like lorens answer because it just rained alot and the noise went away so im thinking it needs lubed up as for the cv joint, my boot looks pretty good and for the ball joint i jacked the car up and i couldnt move the tire at all maybe i should check the tie rod end. does anyone know which would be a good way to do so. oh and before i forget does anyone know what all my options are if i have an ac compressor going out. thanx everyone

Brian; Thanks for the support, but I'm just guessing.  With both front wheels in the air, you should be able to turn the wheels all of the way, left to right, with some resistance. Check the ball joints and tie rod ends for grease fittings and lube them, accordingly. Not all joints are 'greaseable' though. If you have a lube gun, you can buy a needle attachment for it and force grease into the joints through the rubber boots for testing purpose. But, once you do this, it is no longer sealed. But, if you don't, it will go bad. Kind of a catch-22.

hey loren thanks i just changed the back u joint and all i got to say is silence is bliss haha i was finally able to drive without listening around every turn. now does any one know what would cause a ticking noise while going over 55mph or when on a bend going around 40 doesnt happen when going slow thanks again everyone for your input and advice
