letting off the gas car will die

My wife Has a 2001 Ford Escape When I go to start it if i give it gas it will stay started but as soon as i let off the gas it will die and it wont even start unless i give it gas can u please help me or give me some ideas i am racking my brain thank you sincerly,

Start by looking for vacuum leaks or any wiring disconnected. Any codes yet?
