f150 4x4,1994, 208kms,5.0 302 engine,
I just found oil leaking around the drive shaft in my truck. Its where the drive meets the transmission. The oil is dirty more like grease and maybe is, but seems more liquid than grease. Im am wondering on what part I need to change to fix this. Is it a big job? I realing dont care much if it leaks just as long as it doesnt damage anything. the colour of the oil is blackish brown so I know its not tranny fluid. Any suggestions would be helpful.thank you

Probably a gearcase Jeff. Can't say which or how difficult without seeing to replace a seal for that exact one but most will be dirty with greasy area a little bit at the age and might NOT be a problem. Worth checking the level in that gearcase to make sure. If it doesn't leak enough to make any spots then it might be ok to leave it alone - all depending on your desires, and how fast it leaks. It might be one drop a year - can't say.

Put cardboard under there after checking to see how fast it might make a spot and decide based on how low you find it if any and how fast it can make spots,

If it is a standard shift, the fluid is probably gear oil. If it is an automatic, it is probably a mixture of fluid and dirt. It should be a fairly straight forward replacement if it is the rear seal. Let us know.
