key chip Sign In

Google has me running around with no specific answer to my problem, so I'll ask it here.

I bought a used 1999 Merc Gr Marque several years ago and after the money cleared the table only one key was given to me. Not knowing about these "starting chips" in the key I thought nothing of it. I did have two duplicates made only then finding out about the "chip". Now, the starter key is lost and I have no way of starting the car. All the Google ad require two ignition keys to program one they will sell.

A nearby Ford dealer says they can provide a new key for $200 but I must get my car to the dealership.

Any thoughts about bypassing the dealership and saving the $200 key plus the same for towing??

Thanks,
Pirate

If it is a coded key, your choices are limited. A locksmith may be able to code them for you. Not sure of the cost. Other than that, the Dealer is your only option. Or if you are close enough to me----------------Angelic
