Greetings, 2000 Chevy Astro I am thinking of installing a inspection plate in floor of 2000 Chevy Astro van before replacing fuel pump. Whats your thoughts? Have you done this before?

Forget hacking up the truck. You still won't have enough room. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ We offer help in answering questions, clarifying things or giving advice but we are not a substitute for an on-site inspection by a professional.

Do you mean enough room to cut the plate or to remove the pump? One more question if you've time: removing the fuel from the tank with key on pressure pulse? I have no hand pump here.

Richard; You can buy a hand pump at most any parts store for under $10.00. Do not use anything electric to pump out the fuel. (one little spark can ruin your whole day). Agree with HT...don't bother 'cutting' an access hole. Will just cause grief, down the road. Loren SW Washington

Not only will it cause grief but you likely won't have room to get the pump out anyway. The assembly has to be manipulated and twisted around to snake it out and the extra space between the floor and the tank will prevent that. It's just a real crazy idea. it's not that hard to pull the tank.
