ignition locked? Sign In

Ok, my 2001 Dodge Durango won't start. When you put the key in the ignition, it does not turn at all. The steering wheel won't lock but the ignition won't turn at all. It won't turn to forward or backward to where the radio comes on or you can roll down the windows. What's going on? Is the ignition locked or something?
Thanks for any info!!!

Sounds silly but are you using the right key? Also if a duplicate key try it both one way and turn it upside down and try the other side as it uses only one side at a time.

One more - if the vehicle was parked with the wheel turned hard either way the pressure on the star lock can require you to turn the wheel back and fourth to get key to turn,

Re: ignition locked? Sign In

I searched for info on locked ignitions and found this one...so I thought I would ask...

I tried what you suggested about making sure it is the correct key...turned the right way. We parked a secondary car for about 2 months without starting and now the ignition is locked. It is on an uphill incline. But the last time we started it there was no problems or anything. Can you please help other than just towing to a mechanic. We really want to sell this car...just can't get it to the auction.

Thanks!!

What is the problem with this car? If on a steep incline the ignition key shouldn't mind but the vehicle could easily be stuck in PARK (automatics) with exsessive pressure on the parking paul in transmission - is that the problem with this one? If so you may need to push the vehicle to relieve that pressure. If key just won't turn try just spraying where you can with a lube like a WD-40 product??
