high idle RPM Sign In

97 Olds 88 with 3.8 engine. Replaced the idle solenoid (GM aprt) and still reves up at start to 1500RPM and sometimes stays there until I move the cable harness sitting on top of the engine. Will eventually wear out my forward clutches in the trans.

Any ideas?
Thanks

If you have identified a binding cable or throttle plate, then that is what you need to resolve. You said moving the cable corrects the situation then you could have a worn out throttle body. If the throttle shaft has elongated the hole it will shift the position of the throttle plate in the bore which will prevent it from sealing correctly. Sounds like you may have to replace the throttle body.

Thanks Hammertime
Your suggestion makes sense. I guess that throttle body is coming out this weekend.

Thanks again
Sam
