I have a 1986 Honda Accord DX with the 2.0 with a carburetor and 230,000 mileage. When I accelerate it seems like something is trying to hold the engine back. It eventually ends up accelerating after lift completely out of the throttle. What could be my problem?

My Civic had this problem. The clutch was slipping.
Some signs your clutch is slipping are.
Bad gas mileage
Needing to downshift when going up hill.
Pressing on the gas and only gaining RPMs with out acceleration until you let off the gas and hit it again or needing to kick the clutch to pick up RPMs.
The last one does not always appear but it has every time a clutch has gone out on me.

Cluch slipping would show up as increased rpm without gaining speed. This seems more like it's starving for proper fuel under load and perhaps the carb is at fault or fuel delivery, pump, filter. I'd clean the carb just because and then do checks for exhaust restriction which can feel like that too,

I just thought you'd like to know it was the distributor. I had a rebuilt one put in for $260.00. Was that a good price? Well I'm just glad it's running. He changed a belt and hose too. Belt was worn and loose and the hose was not too good either. It's running slightly rough. Any ideas?

I have changed plugs, wires, distributor cap, rotor button, and complete new exhaust. The rpm's don't raise, just seems to bog down. I also changed the air filter, and checked the pcv valve.

From top: '86 Honda, carbed 2.0, 230K, bogs under load at speed::
Valve timing problem should be ruled out and carb is suspect with the other new parts already done IMO,
