grinding Sign In

my 1996 dodge ram 1500 4x4 is makeing a weird grinding noise it is like two gears rubbing or its like something is stuck in the gears. but it only does it every now and then and not as loud since we took the front drive shaft out does anyone have any idea what could be wrong.

Josh; If you could turn up the volume so I could hear it....
Seriously, though, have you inspected the brakes? Could be brakes, wheel bearing, differential problem...ect. Really tough with noises, as they can 'transfer' and be hard to pinpoint. Disc brakes are always in contact with the rotors, so I think that you would hear the noise constantly if they were the problem, but should check just to be sure.
