1976 cuise air rv,it have a 454 chevy big block,the rv is good shape.i just got it off a family member few days ago.the vehicle wont stay running.the gas is about five years old and both tanks are full.i replace the points and coil.the wires and plugs look good.the carb seems ok what i can see for now.so my question is should i drain all the gas out and rebuild the carb.

That's way to old for fuel IMO. You might be able to add SeaFoam and burn it all up otherwise it may have to go. Get a couple fuel filters and change after you run low again if it will still behave to run it out,

like tom said, that gas is long gone (bad)
ive noticed i barely get 6 months even with Stabilizer out of 87 unleaded without engine performance issues in my 69 mustang.
but thats a carbureted engine and are alot more sensitive to fuel quality

To add: Pure refined gasoline w/o additives is pretty dang stable! Trouble is depending on where you live local rules and short cutting make the fuel probably as low as 70% real gasoline - the rest fillers for assorted reasons - usually to lower price or increase profit OR a state mandate additive. That's the stuff I notice goes bad.
I've had good luck with carbed items that I neglected to run dry for seasonal stuff using the SeaFoam Product. I've seen the gas make jelly and junk when a year old never mind five!
I've also seen that exact product break it up - won't necessarily burn thru well as alone it can make it run rougher. That or get it out and sell it for paint brush cleaner??

Also - this carbed 454 may have a two inch filter right at carb only! I'd add one inline in a safe place if practical for you that's isn't the size of 25 cents of pennies! If in carb - get the one inch open ended tool AND a flare nut wrench - I think 5/8th for the line. Don't lose the sprind or the thin plastic gasket! If you do PM me and I'll send you one as I'm sure I have at least one and they are near impossible to find! NEVER uses teflon tape on those threads!
More: Choke pull offs and their proper adjustments are key to what I expect is a Quadrajet. Ask and if that's an issue I can help with that,

Lou; I agree with the other guys. That fuel is waaaaayyy too old. When you say it won't stay running....are you lacking fuel or spark? Points? This should have HEI ignition. If you replaced the coil, it should be the one in the distributor cap?  The carbon button goes down, into the cap, then the 'rubber' insulator, then the coil. There may be a metal ground strap that must be re-used and don't forget the ground wire (if used) that attaches to one of the four screws that holds the coil in place.
If, by chance you are losing spark, check the ignition contol module that is mounted inside the distributor. If it runs okay at idle, but rough (or dies) under load, disconnect and plug off the vacuum line going to the vacuum advance unit and retest. If okay then, defective pick up coil.
