Hi guy's! I have a '96 S10 Blazer all-wheel drive(125,000mi.)Have only owned since 108,000mi. The check engine light has always came on and when taken to the shop, they put it on the machine, say there's no major issue, and it could be from getting gas! They reset it,it goes out only to later in the week come back on.I noticed that the ring attached to the gas lid wasn't all the way down around the spout.I pushed the two tabs down so the lid would maybe get a better seal,But as before this for 3wks.and now,I have a strong gas smell from the driver's side, front to back, with no signs of a leak anywhere. The vehicle runs fine, just got 20 mi./gal. But smells strongly of gas sitting outside or inside, for any amount of time!I'm kind of afraid to park it in the garage.Any ideas on where it could be coming from? Thanks in advance from Potter Co.,Pa.

Try taking it to a different shop or even the dealer for diagnosis.
A strong fuel odor along with evap code(s) is indicating a concern with the evaporative emission system.
Thats what it sounds like to me.
What code(s) are present?

The 1996 Chevrolet S10 blazer only came with a 4.3 L engine.
