2003 chevy express van 6.0 3500 you know that little flap you see when you take off your gas cap. well I just filled up and now I see this flap is stuck open and wont close. To top this off as soon as I left the gas station the check engine light came on. I tried to pull the flap down but it just keeps popping back up. can I cover the hole with something else or is there an easy fix for this. thanks in advance

im sure someone will correct me if im wrong, but i believe that flap acts as a mini check valve and is there to prevent any fuel from traveling up the filler neck and spilling out i guess if you forgot to put your gas cap on. probably just an environmentalist feature. that flap on one of my cars one day just snapped off and went into the tank......no check engine light though. __________________________________________________ 2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee 2002 Ford Ranger 2004 Toyota Corolla 1969 Ford Mustang Mach 1

Here's a 2004 Express Van. What flap are we talking about?? There's a painted metal body panel cover and then should be a little flap inside seen only when fuel cap is removed unless there's some new idea for this. The little metal flap shouldn't matter much and I think it's just a means to help prevent back splash or perhaps a sudden burst of fuel in your face if the tank was holding pressure. The body door might be remote and not stay shut and warn you. The cap may not be tight or fit properly and also give a warning but I would guess that would trigger a general "Service Soon" type warning?? Here are two pics I found out there. What exactly are we talking about? T

i believe hes talking about that little metal door inside the fuel neck that gets pushed out of the way by the gas pump. __________________________________________________ 2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee 2002 Ford Ranger 2004 Toyota Corolla 1969 Ford Mustang Mach 1

I think that's what's being mentioned but can't understand the CEL unless it has a way of NOT sealing tight with gas cap back on?? T
