I assume you have a check engine light on having all those symptoms. Have the codes read and post the numbers here.

The fuel filter should be changed at regular intervals, regardless. In my area it is not uncommon to replace them at least once a year. (drastic temp changes) Was there a reason that you had it changed? Drivability issues? Idle, performance, ect? What you have described as symptoms sounds (and smellsWink) like the engine is severely over-fueling.
Many possibilities. Injector(s), fuel pressure regulator, poor vacuum signal to MAP sensor, and the list goes on. Do not continue driving it this way. The crankcase will get dilluted with fuel and severe engine failure can occur.
If the fuel filter was clogged, it may have been 'masking' the problem.
As Hammer suggested, you should be seeing a check engine light. I'm sure that by having it scanned, you'll get at least a 'rich' code, but list all that you get.
