fuel system prob?

hey I'm a noob here so apologies for lack of technical knowledge. I love my (usually) reliable 1999 mazda demio. we get on well and have a good relationship - recently she's been giving me heaps though. last year she wouldn't start up and the mechanic said it was the fuel pump, and he replaced it (with a 2nd hand pump). I also replaced the fuel filter. now, 300 dollars and a few months later, she's started bunny hopping / stuttering every time the tank gets below half full. wtf? if it was an issue with the fuel pump, wouldn't it be acting up all the time, regardless of how full the tank is? It seems to also be worse when im on a hill. also mostly only happens when accelerating and not at a constant speed. any other ideas? PS I'm a student - so just paying a mechanic to fix it isnt really an option cheers, jeremy

When was the last tune-up? I would also be checking fuel pressure while the car is acting up. It very well could be the pump, as its a used part. Thats why we always recommend new parts. You might get lucky with a salvage unit, which makes it pay off in cost savings. But it could very well go out fast and cost more in the long run. Also, is the check engine light on? If so get the codes scanned and post them here for us.

Has the car ever been involved in a rear end collision?
