fuel or electrical problem?	Sign In

when driving(97 chev pu)acceleration is fine,if I let off the gas
completely there is no problem,however when I back off the throttle just a
little to maintain highway speed it feels as thou the truck is lurching
back and forth.(or like I'm traveling over slightly rough road) Any ideas?

The next time this happens, shift out of overdrive to 3rd gear. If it goes away it is trans. related. Let's narrow down if the problem is trans. or engine related.

The problem still exists when I drop it out of OD into 3rd.

You may have a torque converter problem or a torque converter clutch solenoid problem.

The computer may be trying to control shift points and the trans could be getting stuck between gears.

You could have an EGR problem.

You could have a bad Throttle Position Sensor.

You could have faulty ignition wires.

You could have a sensor problem.

If you can try to give more info about when this happens that would help. Does it do it more when the engine is cold or hot?

There are so many things that can cause bucking it is hard to tell without road testing the vehicle and feeling it out.

hey steve. This happens everytime I'm on the highway. Don't seem to notice any problems up to about 50 miles per hour.After that it's pretty much a regular thing The tachometer does not fluctuate at all.The only symptom is that slightly detectable bucking as you would call it with pedal backed off a bit.Recently had the intake manifold gasket go.Coolant everywhere.Engine temp was somewhat hotter than normal when this happened,but it did not hit the red zone.When machanic did the work he received a timing code, so he adjusted the timing about a degree or so and the code went away.I had no problems prior to this.I have confidence in my machanic, but is it possible he was getting a false code and the action he took caused the symptoms?Plugs have 15,000 miles on them.No complete tune up for some time though. Thanks for your time. Kevin
