fuel injector Sign In

I pulled the fuel injector from my 93 plymouth acclaim I am trying to test it with a 12 volt power supply, the problem is I have no idea what a properly functioning fuel injector is suppossed to sound like, please help.

I'm assuming that this is the 2.5L engine, since you stated that you "pulled the injector"? You can do as you were intending, but no longer than 5 seconds at a time. All an injector is, is an electric solenoid that opens and closes when power is supplied. You'll hear a very rapid clicking noise, almost a hum. What kind of symptoms are you dealing with? Those type injectors very seldom go bad. Take a resistance check of the injector. If memory serves, it should be in the 14-16 ohms range at room temp.

The reason for removing the injector was because the car would not start after two days sitting in minus 30 degrees. I had figured it was frozen fuel lines but after removing a gas line that lead directly to the throtle body I had pressure and gas. After trying to start the car twice i quickly removed the injector cover to look in side and found that the top of the injector had some liquid residue which i believe to be gas.this led me to believe that the gas was entering the injector but not exiting. I removed it to test it and to let it thaw if being frozen closed was the problem. I have tested it and it does make a distinctive clicking noise. Thank you for telling me no more than five seconds because left to my own devices i would surely have tested it until it broke.

If you've got fuel to the injector, but none coming out, I'd suspect the crank sensor, which on the 2.5, I believe, is in the distributor. Check for injector pulse during crank. If you don't have one, a Noid light should be available at your local parts store.

on reinstalling the injector i slipped a piece of paper under the nozzle and tried to start the car when i checked the paper it had been sprayed but car did not start when i removed the paper and tried again I also replaced the plugs because they were quite old and worn but still nothing. The car did not seem to fire at all but i removed several of the plugs to examine them and they seem to show signs of having fired. Because they were perfectly new i took a slight discouloration of the electrode to mean that it had fired. The last time the car started it was quite rough and ran for just a few seconds and then died. It was this that led me to make my original erroneous diagnosis of lack of fuel or injector blockage

Have you checked for injector pulse, yet? Have you taken a fuel pressure test? Have you checked for available voltage from coil? You can have fuel coming from the injector, could be NOT enough or TOO much. Fuel pressure could be too low, although this is a low pressure system. You could have spark to the plugs, but not hot enough to fire. You are going to need: Noid light, fuel pressure guage, and spark tester. Do the tests, then post the results, and we can go from there.
