fickle car battery Sign In

hi,
I was on a road trip and after a stop to refill my car wouldn't turn over. Jumped in an instant. Took the car to the mechanic, alternator was fine he tried giving it a recharge. It was fine for a day. Since then car sometimes turns on fine, sometimes needs to be jumped. The alternator measures fine, the load measures fine, the connectors are clean. I'd hate to change the battery for no reason. Any ideas?
thanks

Re: fickle car battery Sign In

What kind of vehicle we dealing with here.Year,Make ,Model, engine size would be helpful.

You stated he "tried giving it a recharge"

Start at the basics.Get the battery fully charged and then tested.Batteries can take up to 8 hours to fully charge at a rate of 30 amps for 30 minute intervals.
Then have it load tested. How old is this battery? If more than 3 + years old,i'd toss it anyway.
Did he or you check and clean the connections at the starter and engine block as well?I know you stated connections are clean, most assume that the only place to check and clean them is at the battery terminals.
Starter draw tested?

Jumped right away leads me to a Battery/And/or connection problem.
