explorer engine dies

I need to up date as the last posting was not wrote well. 1995 explorer 4.0 At any given time the engine will run rough for 3 to 5 seconds then surge to a faster running speed for 3 to 5 seconds then run normal or it just dies. It will start back up right away and run fine. My guess is the computer is ajusting fuel intake which would explain the surge. I have cleaned the mass air flow sensor. I have replaced the fuel relay. Fuel pump replaced 30000 mile ago. It has no codes showing up. Also EGR valve and crank shaft sensor replaced. Vehicle has 175000 miles but has had good care.
