I bought a 95 Lexus ES300 with 220K for $800. I knew the motor was bad when I bought the car. We put in a Japanese import motor with 45K and the motor and labor cost me $2200. I just discovered a problem with the transmission which was unexpected and I bought a used trans with 160K. It comes with a 6mo warranty. The trans and labor will run about $1500.

I'm wondering, how do I price the car if I resell it? It books on KBB for $3500 with 220K miles, and books for $5200 with 50K miles. What's fair? Any suggestions?

My thinking in this situation is that you still have a 220K vehicle. Yes it may run well now but there’s more to a vehicle then just engine and transmission. The steering, suspension and brakes system components, all still have the high mileage. Then there’s the cosmetic; interior/ exterior of the vehicle still has 220k and likely has some form of battle wounds.
You may squeeze a bit more out of the vehicle, by supplying recites for the repairs and if possible; transferring the transmission warranty to the new owner?
So pick a happy medium and advertize the thing and see if you get any bites; adjust your pricing from there. You don’t have to sell it to the first person that makes an offer.
