just wanted to share my story....recently the check engine light came on on the wifes 99 durango...didn't have time to mess with it-had her take in to local garage-they scanned computer data-stated fault was intermittent-cleared code and charged her $90 some dollars for diagnostics....on the way home (within a block) light came back on...took back in the next morning,same thing told is was intermittent.suggested she leave it and they would perform extensive diagnostics and test drive to duplicate problem....bull%@&$...i took to autozone.code p0720 stored,output speed sensor malfunction..bought 1 for $17.00 -installed myself-on drivers side of transmission at the rear...deep 1 inch socket all the tools needed.disconected battery-cleared codes.road tested .havn't had a problem since....now i can understand extensive diagnostics for something intermittent but this was certainly not intermittent...thank god for autozone and their free diagnostics.....

Sounds like that shop missed the opportunity to just fix that and make you a happy customer. In fairness, it isn't always as simple as you found it to be,

To add to Tom's reply. If it happened to be a wiring problem the sensor would not have fixed it. That is where the diagnostics come in. I agree that the shop should have explained a little better to you, but when there is a wiring concern, all bets are out the window. Glad you have it fixed.
