If it's that easy why are you asking us what the problem is? If you suspect an alternator, then test and charge the battery first and then use a digital voltmeter across the battery with the engine idling to see if it's charging or not. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ We offer help in answering questions, clarifying things or giving advice but we are not a substitute for an on-site inspection by a professional.

sten; From the symptoms and 'noises', I'd check the serpentine drive belt, belt tensioner, and associated pulleys (i.e. water pump, idler, ect.) Loren SW Washington
