delay in start of an engine Sign In

howdy

here is the deal

ford tourus 97, new battery
when i turn key to start the motor there is a big delay 3-5sec sometimes even more , (it tries to start) it cranks over but does not start sometimes will start from turning keys a second time. it does starts well when car is still warm from before (10 15 min) . "check engine" light is off

could you please tell me what could be the problem, maybe spark plugs? fuel pump,.....

Are you saying that your getting no response from the starter for a few seconds or that it cranks over but doesn't start?

The first thing you need to check is the fuel pressure before starting the engine and monitor how quickly it comes up to correct pressure and what it does when you shut it off.
