we have a 95 chevy cavalier, We just bought it. It over heats because the radator fan doesn't turn. Now, We jumped the fan across the battery and it works. I replaced the sending unit in the thermostat housing. The relay "clicks", so i assume it's working.There is a fuse under the hood that is good.(not burned) If we keep the fan hooked to the battery, it doesn't over heat. I looked at other posts for answers. My question is,what are we missing. Is there another part in the system.The wiring looks good and stock. Thanks.

Does the fan come on with the A/C?

Hello, The a/c doesn't work. The compressor doesn't turn. Being a new car, I don't know if it doesn't work because of a bad compressor, low refrig. etc. Are the two related?

Not necessarily. The fan runs all the time with the A/C on so it would tell me if the fan circuit was operational. These fans don't come on until around 226 degrees so many people think there is a problem when there isn't.

Ok, I looked at the gauge and it says 190* with a max of 226* so it's been running around 200*. So I'll keep an eye on it to see if it's normal. Thanks anyway.

OPERATION
The fan normally operates when the engine coolant temperature exceeds 217°F, A/C is requested, and vehicle speed is greater than 35 mph. The cooling fan will also run if regardless of vehicle speed if coolant temperature exceeds 224°F, any diagnostic trouble code is set or A/C refrigerant pressure is high. If the PCM is in back-up mode then the cooling fan will run. The cooling fan will run-on up to seven minutes after ignition switch is turned to Off position if engine coolant temperature is greater than 212°F and intake air temperature is greater than 176°F.
