Seat Altea 1.9 tdi 31000. Recently car juddered and appeared to stall. on trying to restart just juddered. Clutch Stuck to floor and gear stick in 4th. RAC.man said slave cylinder shattered. Fitted new one. Clutch was still top heavy and wouldn't clear. Taken to Seat dealer who stripped it down and blamed on clutch plate being completly worn one one side. Not covered by warnty. Mechanic friend says that I should have noticed some slipping if this was the case and would not have caused such a clutch colapse. No slipping ever noticed. Seat dealer says that it could have occured very quickly so no slipping would have been noticed and still insist that this is the cause of not clearing. Mechanic friend thinks dealer explanation very suspect. Anyone got any ideasUnsure

You can really second guess the guy that is actually looking at the parts. Your really referring to opposite symptoms here. If the clutch is not disengaging sufficiently to shift easily, that's not a wear out issue. That's more of a "broken spring" type problem but still could be caused by a problem in the disc or pressure plate. The bottom line is, if the clutch is worn out, and he should be able to show you that, it needs to be replaced.

Agree with Hammer. I've seen clutch disc material break away from the plate. It is held on by rivets. Also, the springs in the middle of the 'plate' can break, fall out, and destroy a clutch disc. Clutches are generally considered a "wear" item. A teenager can destroy one in a day. Unsure
