2004 Chevy Impala makes crunching noise when going over speed bumps or big dips in road. Is this my struts? bushings? I heard to replace struts just on the front would cost me over $600. Any ideas?

Struts are possible and that price is in line. There is also a kit for bushing/mount up top that might make noise - either way it need inspection up close to know exatly what you need.

Bushing + Top mount

Strut itself looks like that and will require an alignment too if replaced,

Re: chevy suspension Sign In

a common problem with the impalas is the control arm bushing. They use a horizontal one, and a vertical one (not really sure why). The vertical bushing has a tendency to separate, allowing the control arm to make contact with the engine cradle. When this happens, and you go over a bump or dip, you will hear a sound that is very similar to a bad strut mount. To check for this, simply visually inspect the bushings, and pull down on the control arm with your hand. If the rubber is visibly separated or you can pull the control arm down to make metal on metal contact, you've found your problem. It could be either strut mounts, or the bushing. Both are very common problems with the impalas. Best of luck
