Have a 1996 Chevy Cavalier. approx. 100,000 miles. 2.4 L? Sometimes when the brake is applied the car dies! It right back up again. Help, what could it be?

The connection of stalling when brakes applied could be a fault in the vacuum assisted power brakes. Check hose, a check valve at the booster and the booster itself.

If you plug off the vacuum source to the booster and problem goes away you know it's the trouble spot. Don't drive with assist defeated/plugged as you seriously compremise braking ability! Ok for testing in controlled area,

Does this have an automatic or manual transmission?
