Search Auto Parts Search chevy 350 bore 30 overheating Sign up here!   Email This Post Auto Repair Home>> Automotive Repair>> Car Troubleshooting roblee New User Jun 11, 2009, 3:44 PM Post #1 of 4 (4964 views) chevy 350 bore 30 overheating Sign In i have a chevy 350 bore 30 over. my problem is that it over heats in about a 30 minute drive. when you first crank it up, it runs great, but as it gets hotter the carb starts loading up, like it's vapor locking, the temp gets anywhere from 220-230, i pull over to let it cool because it will keep climbing. I have replaced the radiator with an aluminum (factory direct fit), i have 2 electric fans (12 and 14 inch) and they pull a lot of air, replaced carb (quick fuel 650), intake (rpm air gap), water pump (high-volume aluminum), thermostat, pulleys (aluminum), i've even replaced the distributor, double-checked my timing, just not sure what else to do other than pull the motor! no coolant leaks! no water in the oil. This is a freshly built motor. All the parts are NEW.PLEASE help! Depending on the year, some of the later model 350s used a reverse rotation (serpentine) water pump. What are you running the base timing at? Let us know more specifics. What year engine? What vehicle? What type ignition system, ect. It has to turn in the direction it was engineered to or it will severely overheat.. The thing that usually determines which way it turns is whether it is driven by the front side of the belt or the back side. Pumps that are driven by the back side of the belt have reverse rotation.
