for a few weeks power windows only work if I do things like play with the ignition. the latest thing that worked a few times was to open the side doors. now I have run out of tricks. nothing gets the windows to work. the mechanic checked the switch. it didn't help. he has to do troubleshooting to figure it out - maybe wiring or relays. any hints to tell him? hope it doesn't rain before I get the car back to him.

Depending on the experience of the mechanic you are taking it to, he/she shouldn't need advice on how to troubleshoot power window circuits. He/she should have the proper tools and schematics to handle your problem.

thanks. the shop has good mechanics. I was just curious what would cause the problem to get worse over time instead of all at once. I was able to get the windows to work every day for about 3 weeks by trying different things.

the mechanic replaced a circuit breaker and the window switch. everything seems normal now.
