It may take priming at throttle body (starting fluid), bleeding air out at fuel rail (caution - hazard there) or perhaps a reset of some sort. Electric fuel pumps really don't like running dry or even low on fuel too much and it might have croaked as they get a bit hot without fuel to keep them cooler.
