I have a 1998 Honda Accord with 128,610 miles on it--is in excellent condition with all serviced maintenance. BUT--there is a problem: The can will just quit running and cut off. For example, this morning I had to take my daughter to the airport in Charlotte NC, about 90 miles one way. As we were coming off the exit ramp and onto another road (going about 30 miles per hour) the car just cut off and all the trouble lights can on and started flashing. Cut off the ignition and tried to crank it--all trouble lights came on and it did not crank. Second try got the same results. Third try it cranked up and no flashing lights. Went on to the airport and returned home--about 100 miles--stopped a couple of times to eat and for gasoline and had no problems. Would appreciate any help with this problem--could it be a short somewhere or what--and how much trouble will it be to troubleshoot? Thanks for any advice. Will (Long Face in South Carolina)

When it didn't crank the dash warning lights might have gone out - right? That could be a VERY weak battery cable connection at either end of both cables if so,

Actually, the battery was replaced about six weeks ago and the cables are clean and tight. I was thinking it might be a short (like a wire from alternator that has the covering worn off and when it hits metal it grounds) but I don't know so still looking for help. Thanks. Will

Gotta check the starter end of the pos cable and the engine block end of the neg cable - not just at the battery. If main lead to alt was shorting I would think it would leave clear evidence or blow fuse/fusible link and then not behave again but you said this one behaved again.

Tight cables do not alway make good contact. They really need to be ruled out by taking them off, wire brushing them, tad of grease applied and back on. When it's down you would see this with a test light but you'd have to catch it right then,
