Do what you have to for the location. Tricks include driving a screwdriver thru a strong part still or huge pipe wrench, huge channel locks pliers. Best to grab from outside and as you get closer to base where stuck hopefully it will be strong enough to unscrew from there. If reasonably careful it should come off and a new one will screw on just fine - this time with some lube on the gasket - plain oil and they don't need to be more than hand tightened. +/- 1/2 to 3/4 turn after contact is felt is enough and check for leaks with new installation. Look at a new filter - don't pound a screwdriver or anything thru whole casing too close to base with gasket as there are threads and a spout there for the filter to attach to that stay with the engine, T

My sympathy for you with this. I don't think there's a "one way fits all" approach to the mangled oil filter thing. I've won so far with whatever I dreamed up. At all cost, try to NOT damage the engine's mounting. If you've torn the thing down to just the threads you might be able to "chase" it with a softer metal (brass) drift in the CC direction to get that stuck base plate, gasket and threads off. Good luck, T

you might try a strap wrench!!! When successful, new install is hand tight make sure you lube the gasket with fresh oil.

Chisel and a small hammer is the option from here. Be easy! Don't hit he base plate were the filter screws on. Also to ad to what Tom said a bit of oil around the new filter and hand tight. Unless this is a diesel, I don't remember from your first post if you said, If it is it needs to be a bit tighter to prevent it from rattling off. Use a strap type filter wrench to tighten it. Good Luck Jeff
