breaks on a car that sat for a few years Sign In

im buying my buddies 95 saturn sl1 that has been sitting for a few years.. i jumped it today and it started up fine but the breaks wont work. the break fluid was empty so i refilled it and bled it to no improvment

There is a leak in the system that you need to find. It could be one of the hydraulic component or it may be just rusted out brake lines. Either way, it needs to be inspected thoroughly.

i didnt see anything leak out after i put fluid in it but ill check the ground tomorrow after it sits over night and see if and where its coming from

You won't likely find anything on the ground. This is a small quantity and probably quite slow. You need to have to car inspected thoroughly, including pulling all the wheels and dust caps on the wheel cylinders. They will also look for stains at the back of the master cylinder. There is no question that you have a leak. It just has to be found.

ok thanks.. i just wanted someone elses input but my step father is gonna be helping me tomorrow her just didnt have the time today but he was a jet mechanic for a long time in the navy so he knows how to do all of this stuff
