I have a 2006 chevy silverado 1500, 2wd, that I got new last Feb. It already has grooves in the brake rotors. I took it back to the dealer and they say its from dirt. I started noticing it about 15,000 miles and am having no trouble with the brakes, so should I be concerned? I know I am gonna have some wear just using the brakes but... Am I just being paranoid?

How bad do they look? You bought a new 2006 model in Feb 2007? See when it was made on the driver's door jam. This could need new rotors just from sitting outdoors so long without using them. My own family has purchased cars that were a year old and discounted for that and needed rotors right off the bat. If you are off roading this vehicle it could be your responsibilty,

Sorry I didnt make myself clear on when I got the vehicle , it was Feb 06. No off roading for me, strictly "on the road". They have a deep groove in both sides, maybe I am not remembering right but I dont think I have ever had a vehicle have grooves in the rotors this early in its life, but they tell me its from dirt.I have an uncle that has on 04 silverado and no grooves for him yet.

You said a DEEP groove on both sides. Are these matching single grooves? Each side of the vehicle? Of course this is hard to say without being there but it may be just fine. I'd be more concerned if it was just one or one side. I simply don't know if GM tried making a groove on purpose when new as they once did (like 1970s) on some vehicles. I think that was a way to minimize noise and some replacements had it and some didn't if I recall.
For what it's worth, I haven't seen a big problem with fairly new rotors and note that normal, expected dirt from the road doesn't really have much room to get in between the pad and rotor.
*You noticed something, you brought it to the dealer for inspection, they feel proper to you so I think you've done your job and they probably are fine but keep note of that and records if something does crop up over that, that you had brought it up already,

Ok, thanks so much. The grooves are matching on both sides, but like I said I am not having any trouble, just didnt want it to "get away from me", and wait till my warranty was out. I did write down the person I talked to at the dealership and the date. etc, just in case.

Just know that brakes are funky with warranties. If you wear them out and they show normal wear out it is on you. Some folks drag their left foot on brakes and wipe them out pretty fast (thanks Dad!) and then an arguement ensues. I'm sure it's not your case though,
