I have a 2003 Pontiac AWD/All Wheel Drive ,Aztec,I am wondering if anybody knows if because its an All Wheel Drive if that would cause it to get really bad gas mileage, 15 miles to a gallon if i`m lucky around town, maybe 20 on the Highway ,also can disingauge the AWD on it and make it a 2 wheel drive for the summertime,I get really bad gas mileage with the AWD,15 miles to a gallon if i`m lucky ,its a 3.4 6 cylinder,I know on the older SUV like the Fords there was a knob on the transaxle that you turned if you wanted to switch it back and fort to make the truck an AWD again

http://www.fueleconomy.gov/feg/findacar.htm <<<< Try that to see what you should expect. MPGs we actually get are disappointing many times. Real world use is not a test track so your own WILL be unique to you. AWD by nature can only waste fuel. I don't think you can or if could gain anything by forcing it to stay 2WD. If all is proper with the vehicle just do all the usual things to maximize MPGs - including.... 1. Proper tires and tire pressure. 2. Get all extra unnecessary weight out of the vehicle. 3. Drive gently, coast to stops as practical. Speed! My guess is a car would max out at a steady 42ish MPH and after that it's using more per mile fighting wind resistance exponentially increasing and so much worse after the 55 mark that was a law for so long. 4. I think keeping fuel tank towards fuller side can help despite the added weight I think evaporation is magnified when less full. We are all in this together. Combine trips, carpool, eliminate unnecessary use........ Join the club! T
