automatic shifter Sign In

My 1998 Buick Regal shifter keeps jamming in Park. I have checked the electrical swt. and override and don't see a problem there. If I hold down on the shift lever and wiggle it while my foot is on the brake it will eventually come free. I have removed the console and cannot see any obstruction. I am lost at this point. Cable looks good also.

Check the stoplight circuit. If you have an intermittent stoplight switch it won't allow the vehicle to shift out of park. Stand behind and off to the side of vehicle while an assistant pumps the brake pedal. Make sure the brake lights come on all of the time. If they are intermittent, replace stoplight switch.

Re: automatic shifter Sign In

I tried the brake light theory and found no problem. I did however find that the faster I jiggeled the shifter the easier it came out of park. So..I decided to use the old WD40 on the mechanizm and guess what. It freed it up and it works perfectly now. I don't know what was sticking or why but it is freed up now.

Thanks!!!!!
