auto trunk closer not working Sign In

I have 1994 Buick Park Avenue--it has the auto trunk release and automatic closer that once you push down on trunk lid it catches and then automatically draws the trunk lid tight --it now will not draw the lid tight--it latches , but we cannot push it down by hand and it will not do it automatically--it latches and the trunk release button on the key chain still releases it, but the lid will not shut (there is a gap of about 1 1'2 inches-- we have never had problems before and I looked in the manual to see if there is a fuse maybe out , but it does not show any listed for this--any thoughts or ideas would be much appreciated ...thanks steve

IMO these things are pretty silly and a waste. They can be expensive to fix but most folks just want the lid to close properly. Some are motor failures or little flappers that sense the lid is close or at the first click and some you can just push those with your finger and the latch hoop on body will go down to its "home" position. If so and you don't want to waste time or money on this just unplug the pulldown motor when it's down and it's like any other trunk lid.

I know of the Ford mechanism more than GM's way. The Fords you can take the motor off of and turn ing thing a million times till it's down or get a plain latch hook new or a junk yard from many GMs like the car but that didn't have that. The ones I defeated the most as I said were all Ford vehicles used for livery service for mostly runs to the airport - Ford Crown Vics, Grand Marquis, and Town Cars all have huge trunks and great for luggage but one company asked me to disable all of them as when they do the trick yours did customers luggage could bet wet if it was pouring out and who gives a crap about that feature anyway?? Good luck,

T
