anyone ever tackle a fuel tank press sensor on 99 Tahoe? Sign In

A buddy of mine had his Check engine light on and with my scanner i got a P0452 code. If i researched that right, i believe the cause to be a faulty Fuel Tank Pressure Sensor.

Has anyone tackled trying to change one of these and have any tips???

ya sometimes you can change them without even dropping the fuel tank , you need to locate them with a light and mirror ,they are found on top of the fuel tank mounted in the sending unit, get comfortable, then disconnect the electrical connection , I use a small pocket screw driver or a pick and gently pry the two tabs on the side while wiggling the sensor up , once out, clean the area with brake cleans , lube the silcone rubber seal on the new sensor, reinstall by positioning carefully between the retaining clips and push down evenly using your fingers , reconnect and your good to go ....the only thing i would say otherwise is make sure you actually need this sensor as it is quite often misdiagnosed . one quick check you can perform is to make sure gas cap is tight and run vehicle for about 15 minutes , using a scan tool monitor the pressure sensor . you should have a distinctly positive voltage /psi reading (i can provide the spec if you would like) then while monitoring the psi remove the gas cap , it should then fall to zero , quite often it is just a faulty gas cap or a leak in the evap system is very common ...hope this gives you some food for thought ....good luck.....Todd from the hammer............Smile

my scanner has the Live data function on it... just gotta figure out what reading/abbreviation on the scanner is for the pressure sensor
